About Bernard M. Galarneau
Bernard M. Galarneau is a licensed clinical and forensic psychologist in New Brunswick.
After nearly 5 years of military services, Bernard returned to school and obtained a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from l’Université de Moncton.
He began his career with a 6-month internship at the Restigouche Psychiatric Hospital and soon after began a 25-year career with Correctional Service Canada where he worked with violent offenders in both individual and group settings.
Over 25 years of psychological practice and court experience as an expert witness in 5 provinces.
Professional History
After a 29-year career with Public Safety Canada (CSC), as a Clinical and Forensic Psychologist, Bernard Galarneau retired from public service in 2013 to continue his private practice full time.
Bernard is a former infantryman, having served four and a half years with the Royal 22nd Regiment, deployed with UN (Cyprus) and NATO (Germany).
After his service in the Canadian Forces, he earned a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from l’Université de Moncton. Beyond his M.A. in Clinical Psychology, additional education and other professional interests involve Neuropsychology, Ericksonian Hypnosis and Brief Psychotherapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Trauma-Focused interventions, Basic Criminal Profiling, and Critical Incident Stress Management.
Bernard Galarneau is a declared expert witness in five Canadian Provinces in the field of Clinical and Forensic Psychology and has taught several courses at l’Université de Moncton (Human Development, Abnormal Psychology/Psychopathology, Introduction to Psychology, Psychophysiology and others,
In parallel to his forensic/correctional practice, in 1994 Bernard began a small private practice in evenings and weekends, which became a full-time practice after he retired from Public Service in 2013.
Bernard was also a mental health consultant for 5 years with the New Brunswick RCMP’s negotiator team, providing advice on strategies and mental health status of individual barricading themselves or taking hostages. He has received specialized training in profiling with FBI profilers and specialized training in assessing potential violence in the workplace or school.
Bernard is now offering quality bilingual services to a clientele of adults presenting a variety of psychological issues, including anxiety, depression/mood disorders, PTSD, personality disorders, trauma, abuse, and ADHD. Bernard is also offering services to individuals who are now on a return to work program, assisting them in acquiring psychological skills and strategies to better deal with the unavoidable stressors in the workplace.
Bernard also offers bilingual forensic assessments for sexual and physical violence, fitness-to-work evaluations and court-ordered mental health assessments.
